Villanueva de Gállego (Zaragoza), Mar 4 (EFE).- Around a hundred people have gathered this afternoon in the Plaza de España in Villanueva de Gállego to condemn the murder of Mari Carmen, 39, who this Friday was murdered in the town by, supposedly, her ex-partner and father of her 6-year-old son, who was present at the time of the events.
Although the Government Delegation against Gender Violence has not yet confirmed that it is a sexist murder, the municipal corporation has called this concentration in rejection of this murder and against gender violence, and has decreed two days of official mourning, tomorrow Sunday and Monday.
The Villanueva Councilor for Equality, Susana González, has shown respect for these procedures, but has defended the position of the City Council because, regardless of official confirmation, there has been a murder, she said.
The concentration was attended by the director of the Aragonese Institute for Women (IAM), María Goikoetxea, and the Councilor for Women, Equality and Youth of the Zaragoza City Council, María Antoñanzas.
Before, visibly moved, González has recognized that when events of this nature strike “in the next street” it is difficult to hold back tears.
“No one is prepared to assume this,” he said in reference to the residents of the municipality but also to the family of Mari Carmen, who is “destroyed.”
Regarding the child, who apparently witnessed how his father murdered his mother in the doorway of the aggressor’s home with a knife, he explained that the social services, educators and psychologists are already treating him.
Mari Carmen and her alleged murderer had been included in VioGen’s surveillance and protection system, and, in fact, she had had a restraining order that had already expired.
González, in this regard, has stated that the City Council was unaware that this order existed and also that it had prescribed.
In his opinion, now the people who work every day on these issues will have to analyze what has happened.
He has also added that the administrations place great emphasis on the need to denounce and that this is “the first step” that must be taken as a society to begin to eradicate the scourge of sexist violence.
But, unfortunately, events like the one that occurred in Villanueva, he has insisted, are “something that cannot be foreseen.”
This would be the tenth sexist murder so far this year in Spain and the 1,192 since there are records. In Aragon it would be the first of 2023 and the 33rd since they were recorded.
The son of this woman would be the first orphan in Aragon in 2023 due to male violence, and the 14th in all of Spain.
016 attends to all victims of sexist violence 24 hours a day and in 52 different languages and leaves no trace on the invoice, just like the email [email protected].
