Santander (EFE).- The president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, has announced the resignation of the Minister of Public Works, José Luis Gochicoa, and the number 2 of that department, Manuel del Jesús, because “the controls have failed” before the alleged irregularities in the contracting of the road maintenance and upkeep service.
“I will accept it with a lot of pain and aware that I will probably be committing an injustice,” Revilla said this Friday, who has assured that the detained senior official “had no accomplice” within the Administration and that in none of the 4,080 pages of the summary, these two charges of the Ministry are cited.
In addition, the head of the Cantabrian Government has advanced that the Investigating Court number 5 of Santander, which is handling the case, has been requested precautionary measures to separate the companies allegedly involved from contracting and, in addition, that controls will be increased about awards.

In the case, eight people have been arrested, accused of embezzlement, fraud and bribery, including the head of the Highway maintenance and conservation service, who remains in prison, and whose home was seized with more than 500,000 euros in cash and a banknote counting machine.
The other seven detainees were released with charges.
