Trujillo (Cáceres), Mar 3 (EFE).- The American firm Diamond Foundry hopes that the synthetic diamond factory, an alternative for semiconductors, which will be located in the town of Trujillo in Cáceres and will be the first in Europe, can be up and running in less than two years.
This was stated by its CEO, Martin Roscheisen, after the symbolic act of placing the first stone that was held this Friday in the Trujillo industrial estate, with the presence of the Chairman of the Board, Guillermo Fernández Vara, and the Minister of Territorial policy and government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, among other authorities.
The plant, which will be located on a plot of about 80,000 square meters, has an investment of about 700 million euros and expects to generate more than 300 jobs.
The American firm Diamond Foundry, which has the actor Leonardo di Caprio among its promoters, has developed eight generations of plasma reactor designs, which are the devices that allow the environmental conditions necessary for the manufacture of synthetic diamonds to be generated.
The patented plasma reactors used by Diamond Foundry enable the creation of wafer-sized single-crystalline diamonds (SCDs) whose thermal conductivity performance far exceeds that of silicon chips.
Therefore, they can be used as semiconductors for the computing and artificial intelligence industries, 5G/6G communications, and electric cars.
In his speech, Roscheisen recalled that the plant, whose works are already underway, is the most ecological possible thanks to the latest technologies, which, in turn, will allow more efficient electric vehicles.
He has been grateful for the “enthusiastic and collaborative” welcome and support that the project has had in Extremadura, which he has described as “the most appropriate place” and which has fostered “a true alliance”.
In this sense, the president of the company in Spain, Rafael Benjumea, has expressed himself, who explained that from the first moment the place where the project was to be launched was chosen, “it began to function as a team”, which that has been the basis of “success” that is embodied in today’s act.
Benjumea was pleased that Roscheisen believed from the outset “in Spain, Extremadura and Trujillo” and that this commitment has had institutional and financial support.
For this reason, he has considered that it is “a magnificent example” of collaboration and has taken the opportunity to send a message about the “great potential” of Spain and not to miss out on “the historic opportunity” to lead energy independence.
Along the same lines, the Government spokesperson has expressed herself, who has applauded the attitude of Extremadura and investors to bet on renewable energies and sustainable industries, and has urged to “get rid of complexes” with respect to Spain’s energy leadership.
In his opinion, initiatives such as the Trujillo synthetic diamond plant not only place Extremadura and Spain in that leadership and opportunity “that should not be missed”, but also results in achieving a better standard of living for people who find a job opportunity in these environments.
He recalled that energy autonomy “is one of the challenges” of Spain, so the symbolic placement of this first stone is not only for this project but also for a future strategy.
For his part, Fernández Vara thanked the investors who have believed in Extremadura to make this project a reality, although he added that “they have made this wise decision because they know that it is where they will do best”.
“Now it plays another role in history”, remarked the president of the Board, who has highlighted the prominent place that the region will have in the new scenario. EFE
