Los Angeles (USA) (EFE).- The Los Angeles Lakers announced this Thursday that LeBron James will miss at least three weeks of competition due to a tendon injury in his right foot.
“LeBron James has been evaluated by Lakers doctors and determined to have a tendon injury in his right foot. James will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks,” the Los Angeles franchise said in a statement.
LeBron sustained this injury last Sunday in his team’s fabulous comeback against Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks (108-111).
Despite the fact that he managed to finish that game even though he was injured, LeBron did not play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday (121-109 loss) or in Wednesday’s victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder (117-123) and it was already feared that these problems in the foot they could leave him out for several weeks.
The confirmation of the injury and the period of absence of LeBron supposes a very important obstacle for the aspirations of the Lakers, who are eleventh in the Western Conference with a balance of 30-33, one game difference from the New Orleans Pelicans who score the last place in the play-in with 31-32.
The Lakers have been reacting
After a very complicated and disappointing start to the season, those in purple and gold made a move before the NBA transfer deadline and, among other decisions, opened the door to players like Russell Westbrook or Patrick Beverley, while they welcomed reinforcements like D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura or Malik Beasley.
The efforts of the offices had an immediate effect and the Lakers have won four of their last five games, but LeBron’s injury threatens to derail the Los Angeles comeback in the final stretch of a regular season that has little more than a month of competition
Counting on him being only three weeks away, LeBron would miss about 10 of the 19 games that the Lakers have ahead of their regular season schedule.
In addition, the Lakers come from a spectacular failure in the 2021-2022 season when they did not even qualify for the play-in with a team full of names in capital letters from the league that included LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard.
At 38 years old and in his 20th season in the NBA, LeBron continues to play at an extraordinary level, in February he became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer by beating Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and this season he averages 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists.
