Salamanca (EFE) the Congress of March 11 has “tinges of illegality”.
In an interview with the EFE Agency this Wednesday, García Carbayo (Salamanca, 1962) has defended the “absolute transparency and reliability” of the Salamanca PP primaries and has said that if De la Torre poses the campaign in negative terms “it is that she’s a loser beforehand.”
The popular has led the provincial manager since Javier Iglesias resigned in December, investigated in the “primaries case” on the alleged illegal financing of the Salamanca party in the framework of the 2017 primaries, which led to the election as the PP candidate for the elections regional governments of the current president of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco.
-How does Congress face being mayor, president of the manager, candidate to lead the party and the municipalities?
As one more opportunity to get closer to the militants. We are touring all the county heads. It is an opportunity to receive love and support, which is what I am feeling, a very good atmosphere.
-What do the militants tell you about the internal crisis and the judicialization of the convocation of Congress?
It is a matter that does not reach the militant, it is identified with the initials of the PP, it does not divide between people. He is interested in the Popular Party doing well.
-And they ask you why the Congress was not convened when it corresponded, in 2021?
Absolutely not. In all honesty, no militant has told me anything about it. I see Congress as an opportunity to broaden our base and come out stronger in the elections. I think this sentiment is shared by the militancy.
-What do you respond to the critics who accuse you of being a judge and a party in these primaries, by presiding over the agency and competing as a candidate?
These people had responsibility in the manager and in the party, we are all co-responsible for the life of the party, in the good and the less good. The happiness of the PP is that everything is good.
There will be transparency in the primaries of the PP of Salamanca
-Your opponent, Chabela de la Torre, accuses you of hiding affiliate data from him.
All PP Congresses are absolutely transparent and reliable, and this one too. I campaign positively, aimed at the militants. If other people prefer to campaign with the media or making complaints that are not justified, that is their problem.
-Is the data on how many affiliates have the right to vote before the primaries on Friday going to be made public?
It is a piece of information that they are finishing defining, if they have not already defined it, even made it known, because it is what the organizing committee was working on lately. I think it will be a very exciting figure.
-Critics denounce that there are 2,000 new affiliations that have occurred in just two months.
What I know is that the judge has not agreed with them and that is what I stick to. I only know that they requested very precautionary measures and his honor has not agreed with them.
-De la Torre says that you have access to whatsapps of affiliates and send massive messages.
That is an extraordinary falsehood. The contacts that we make with the militants or affiliates are with the numbers that we have always had on our cell phones. How are we going to have a relationship if that data is protected? These data are kept by the party management and are not provided to anyone. If the candidate has made use of her contacts to send calls, it is the same thing that we are doing. If she acts fair, so do we.
-Your rival also denounces that there is pressure to withdraw your support.
They are a string of unfounded accusations. If a person wants to present the campaign in such negative terms, it is because they are a loser beforehand. This is how losers always set up their campaigns.
– Does the noise caused by the internal crisis bother you?
I have always defended the closing of ranks and unity. If there is something we do not agree on, we discuss it in our house. It’s amazing that this whole movement has arisen when these people who were part of the management never made the slightest complaint.
-What do you think this break is due to?
That they have to explain.
-Do you think that there are things that could have been done better since Congress was not convened in 2021?
I think that things can always be improved but, honestly, the Salamanca PP has done everything necessary for the party to continue to be the leader.
The results show that the PP of Salamanca is an example in all of Spain, that is our letter of introduction.
– Do you think that the Congress should have been held then?
About celebrating it in 2021 or on the most appropriate date, those are things of political opportunity that often determine it.
-If the judge had not forced to convene the Congress now, would you have preferred it after the municipal ones?
We were already working as a manager to summon it. It is an extra effort at a very important moment with elections in sight, but we are prepared for this and much more.
The controversy over the “Dubai” project is a resolved issue
-Do you think that the controversy of the Peace City World urban project could affect you in the face of the game?
Absolutely. It is an issue that has affected a delegate councilor, who no longer has those powers and who is from another political group. I consider it resolved.
-Do the militants ask you about the possible entry of Vox into the City Hall?
We in the PP do not talk about Vox or other parties. And publicly I don’t talk about other parties because I don’t give them a second of publicity. Regarding whether he is going to enter the City Council, I refer to the last elections, when he was left out.
-Why do you think that the people of Salamanca remain faithful to the PP?
Our mayors, in the towns, have been there for 30, 28, 24 years. They are an example of commitment. And the key to success is work, work, work.
