London (EFE).- Tottenham Hotspur has reached a fifteen-year agreement with Formula One for the construction of the first karting track inside a stadium and the development of a driver recruitment program to discover the new gems of the competition.
The ‘Spurs’ will build this electric go-kart track under the stadium, expanding the multi-use options of a Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that also hosts NFL and rugby matches, concerts and boxing evenings.
The track has been given the go-ahead by the UK’s national karting association and could host championships in the future.
In addition, Tottenham, together with Formula One, will develop a talent recruitment program through educational activities in schools, to attract young people interested in the motor world, not only in driving, but also in phases such as engineering and software development.
Environmental responsibility is another of the objectives of this program and while Formula One plans zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, Tottenham is the “greenest” club in the Premier League, with the goal of reducing emissions to zero for 2040.
Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula One, assured that this agreement is a way to “continue the growth of the sport around the world” and take it to “new audiences”.
“The karting track will be an experience for families, friends and aspiring drivers,” said Domenicali.
The Tottenham stadium, inaugurated in the spring of 2019, cost more than 1,000 million euros and is the great asset of the London team and one of the main reasons why the team’s owners have refused to accept offers for the club, as the one supposedly carried out by the Iranian billionaire Jahm Najafi, for a value of 3,750 million euros.
