Toledo (EFE).- The Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) publishes this Tuesday a resolution of the General Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock, which relaxes the restrictions to prevent the spread of sheep pox and determines the Sanitary measures that must be adopted in sheep and goat farms in the Additional Restriction Zone that includes the provinces of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo.
The resolution explains that, taking into account the evolution of the disease after the outbreaks declared since September 2022 in the province of Cuenca, and the appearance of a new outbreak in Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real) in the month of February 2023, it is necessary to establish, in all the provinces of Castilla-La Mancha, a series of additional measures in all sheep and goat farms that are not included in the Restriction Zones (ZR, those where an outbreak has appeared ).
The objective is to intensify the control measures that allow the definitive eradication of sheep pox to be achieved.
Therefore, an Additional Restriction Zone (ZRA) is established, made up of sheep and goat farms in the provinces of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo, which are not included in the Restriction Zones.
The entry and exit of live animals from sheep and goat farms in the ZRA is prohibited, with the exception of slaughterhouses, which may receive animals from national territory for slaughter.
As an exception to this prohibition, movement of animals between farms with zootechnical reproduction classification and their pastures will be allowed, provided that both the farm and the pastures are located in the ZRA.
Movements of animals from sheep and goat farms located in the ZRA are authorized, directly to a slaughterhouse, located in the national territory, for slaughter, complying with a series of cleaning and disinfection conditions for vehicles.
In addition, the sheep and goats intended for transfer, in the 48 hours prior to loading, will have undergone a clinical examination and will not have shown clinical signs or lesions compatible with sheep pox and goat pox. EFE
