Oviedo, Feb 27 (EFE).- The Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, stated this Monday that the autonomous communities that intend to carry out controls on wolves in their territory have to comply with different premises, in particular they must have a updated census of the species in the region.
Speaking to journalists before participating in the opening ceremony of the Final Conference of the Architecture and Climate Project (Arcas), held in Oviedo, Morán stressed that compliance with regulations is “essential” and recognized that Asturias is among the most advanced regions in the census update.
The Secretary of State has indicated that to make an evaluation of these censuses it is necessary to obtain knowledge that goes beyond the administrative limits of each region, since biological borders must be taken into account.
Morán has highlighted the implementation of the work plan in agreement with the autonomous communities to update the censuses and has pointed out that he hopes that in “a reasonably short time” figures will be available that allow “much more solid” decisions to be made.
Among the requirements set to be able to carry out the extractions, in addition to updating the census, it is contemplated that the controls prevent serious damage caused by the wolf to livestock.
