Santander (EFE).- The Ukrainians residing in Cantabria have asked this Saturday in a demonstration, in which dozens of people have participated, the end of the “brutal” invasion of their country by Russia, when the first anniversary is celebrated from the war.
Convened by the Association of Ukrainians in Santander Oberig, the participants have demonstrated through the center of Santander to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where a manifesto has been read, in an act attended by the mayoress, Gema Igual, and representatives of other political forces with municipal representation.
30,000 civilians killed
In the manifesto, the conveners have recalled that this war has already caused the death of more than 30,000 civilians and eight million displaced people and has shown that the objective of Russian President Vladimir Putin is “the extermination of the Ukrainian people”.
They have denounced the “humanitarian catastrophe” caused by the Russian army, with “summary trials, mass graves to hide their crimes, rapes, torture and deportations”, and have warned the international community against Putin’s intention to “destroy” the unity of democratic countries, which would set a “dangerous precedent”.
“Today we go out again through the streets of Santander to express our total rejection of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, like all wars, and to say a resounding, no”, summarizes the manifesto of the organizers of this protest that takes place one day after one year of the start of this armed conflict.
