Las Palmas De Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, has presented this Saturday to the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Augusto Hidalgo, the title that distinguishes the carnival of this city as a Festival of International Tourist Interest for which Turespaña has said will “reinforce” its foreign promotion.
After witnessing last night at the Santa Catalina park the gala for the election of the queen of the festivities, Maroto has estimated that this distinction is “very deserved”, since with it the work that the municipal corporation has done and “the passion and love” with which the residents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria prepare these festivities all year round.
The minister has hoped that this new recognition of the Carnival in the capital of Gran Canaria will be “one more reason” to visit this great city.
Maroto has highlighted that, within the strategy that pursues the tourist modernization of Spain and that is financed with European recovery funds, the Canary Islands have already received 240 million from the Next Generation.
For his part, the mayor Augusto Hidalgo recalled that the carnival festivities in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria were of regional interest in 2015, which is why he highlighted the municipal work carried out since then, which has allowed for an international leap “that they already had”, taking into account the “real impact” that its main events have generated for years in many countries on the planet.
The councilor also thanked the thousands of people who make up the carnival groups for this recognition, who prepare each year for ten months each edition of a festival that would not exist without their participation, he said. EFE
