Algeciras (Cádiz), (EFE).- Algeciras (Cádiz) has honored this Saturday with a concentration the memory of Diego Valencia, the sacristan of the church of Nuestra Señora de La Palma assassinated on January 25 in the jihadist attacks perpetrated in two local churches.
The concentration, convened by the City Council, has begun with a minute of silence. At the end of it, the mayor of the municipality, José Ignacio Landaluce, stressed that calling this act “was necessary”, since “the Valencia family means a lot to us. We try to accompany them in this pain and minimize the discomfort of day to day to the best of our ability.
Landaluce recalled that the council will give the name of Diego Valencia to a park that will be inaugurated in the city. It will be next to the monument of the victims of terrorism. “We will continue to remember him. What he was fighting for is what we are all going to fight for ”, he stated.
Peace, harmony and respect
The also senator for the province of Cádiz has regretted that an initiative presented in the Senate to issue a joint statement of support and recognition for the family has not gone ahead due to the opposition of “minority groups. He believes that they do not realize that what is important here is respect for a good person, a man of faith, who was killed for his beliefs.
“The important thing is to be with the family and recognize this situation in Algeciras, in which we live together, in peace, harmony and respect,” he stressed.
The day coincides with the anniversary of the death of Paco de Lucía, the well-remembered guitar genius from Algeciras, which, in the councilor’s opinion, “makes this day even greater”.
The event was attended by representatives of the municipal corporation, as well as the sub-delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Campo de Gibraltar, Javier Rodríguez Ros, and the relatives of the deceased, including his daughter Ana Beatriz and his brother Pepe.
The brother of the murdered sacristan in Algeciras has told the media that the relatives are “overflowing with so much affection. All that they have been able to help us, they have.”
“We are very grateful. Now we do realize what they wanted my brother ”, he has sentenced.
Jihadist attack, according to the judge
The Moroccan Yassin Kanjaa, accused of the jihadist attack perpetrated on January 25 in two churches in Algeciras (Cádiz), underwent a psychiatric examination before the forensics of the National Court on Thursday.
The judge believes that the evidence collected so far supports that the action can be classified “as a jihadist attack directed both against priests who profess the faith of the Catholic Church and against Muslims who, according to the investigator, do not follow the precepts of the Koran.”
At the moment, everything seems to indicate that Kanjaa would have acted alone and without the help of third parties, as he himself acknowledged in his statement, and the magistrate believes that, at this initial moment of the investigation, it can be affirmed that the person under investigation would identify himself with “a profile of a self-indoctrinated terrorist who acts individually and is not directly linked to a terrorist organization”.
