A Guarda (Pontevedra), Feb 24 (EFE).- The Danish Jonas Vingegaard, winner of the Tour de France, signed this Friday an exhibition in the ascent to the Monte Tegra pass that earned him the victory and the leadership in the second stage of the O Gran Camiño cycling tour that takes place this week in Galicia.
Vingegaaard confirmed the predictions. The Dane showed that he came to Galician lands to win. He attacked at the last climb, where he jilted his rivals to embark on a solo journey to the finish line, with Rubén Guerrero (Movistar) and Ion Izagirre battling it out for second place taken by the Portuguese.
The potent Jumbo controlled the breakaway from a distance, not letting him go for much more than a minute. The yellow block marked the pace of the peloton, until before facing the penultimate port of the day, the Alto da Cruz da Portela, brought down the adventure of the seven escapees.
The Spaniards Unai Cuadrado, Josu Etxeberria, Antonio Angulo and Alejandro Ropero, together with Alexander Konychev, Mattia Bais and Sebastian Schönberger, were neutralized with 15 kilometers to go. His adventure lasted until he wanted the Jumbo.
The Galician Delio Fernández took advantage of it to exhibit himself in front of his countrymen. He was the one who crowned the Alto da Cruz da Portela in first position, ahead of Francesco Gavazzi and Samuele Rivi, before the yellow block, with Vingegaard very well placed, picked up the pace again to face the demanding last climb of Monte Tegra .
The Cofidis runners will also be seen at the front of the group before starting the climb. It was something temporary. The Jumbo lined up the group until Vingegaard started with just two kilometers to go. Nobody withstood his blow. The Dane broke away from his rivals too easily, to enter the cobblestone with a comfortable lead over his pursuers.
