Logroño, (EFE).- A black and white portrait of the boxer Gazi Jalidov, by photographer Sergio Espinosa, has been chosen by the jury as the winning work of the tenth La Rioja photojournalism contest, whose prizes have been announced this Thursday.
The winners of the contest have been revealed in an act in which the president of the Parliament of La Rioja, Jesús María García, and several of the sponsors of the contest and members of the jury, among them the photojournalist Sofía Moro, have participated.
The winning photograph has the title “Do not let your guard down” and in it Sergio Espinosa -who will receive a thousand euros for it- has shown the image of this boxer highlighting details of his muscular torso and neck, with his arms crossed, with some boxing gloves hanging from the neck.
The image of the boxer from La Rioja, Olympic diploma in Tokyo 2021, illustrated a series of photographs about the best athletes of that year, prizes that were awarded in 2022 and that is why he has been able to attend this annual contest.
Espinosa has detailed that the image of the winner is part of a series on athletes from La Rioja, on the occasion of the 2021 La Rioja Sports Gala; With this photograph he tried to reflect “he is the effort that boxing represents and all the work that is in his body” in addition to the fact that “he has a lost look as a sign of the future” alluding to his youth.
