Pamplona (EFE).- The Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Navarra has presented this Friday the Gold Medal of this institution to the former president of the Foral Government Miguel Sanz. It is a distinction that until now only King Felipe VI, then Prince of Asturias and Viana, had.
Sanz was president of the Government of Navarra for four terms, from 1996 to 2011, and as highlighted by the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Javier Taberna, during this period important economic projects related to this institution were carried out and numerous infrastructures were developed .
Among these projects, he cited the internationalization of the Navarra company through programs such as Pipe 2000, Promex or the seven editions of the Navarra Week in the United States.
Other projects highlighted by Taberna are the creation of the Pamplona Congress Office, also called the Convention Bureau, the development of the Transport City of the Pamplona Region, the start-up of the Single Business Window, and the construction of the new headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce.
On the other hand, he has valued the initiatives developed during his tenure for the development of the Navarra economy, such as the three Technology Plans, the creation of various technology centers and other relevant infrastructures, or the signing of the first Employment Plan for Navarra.
Those who know Miguel Sanz, Taberna has highlighted, “we know that he does not like recognition or distinctions and that he is a simple and humble person, a tireless worker who is enough with his family and friends and a good jota to be happy and make others happy.”
Taberna has declared that in Navarra “we are not very given to recognizing or distinguishing our fellow citizens, but when it comes to politicians it is still much worse”, for which he wanted to “break a spear” for the political class.
“Democracy would not exist if politicians and political parties did not exist,” said Taberna, who recalled that most politicians “are honest, hard-working and upright” and, in his opinion, deserve recognition from all of society.
Miguel Sanz, “very grateful”
Miguel Sanz has commented to the media that he was “very grateful” for this medal from the Chamber of Commerce, “but above all also for how easy they made it for me when I was in government to collaborate with them and reach agreements in order to internationalize the Navarrese company abroad”.
This act was attended by, among others, former advisers of the Government of Navarra, former leaders of political parties, regional parliamentarians and public officials such as the president of the TSJN, Joaquín Galve. The president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, José Luis Bonet, also attended.
