Llíria (Valencia), Feb 24 (EFE).- Ecovidrio and the six Fallas commissions of Llíria have participated this Friday in a tree planting as a prize for being the municipality that recycled the most glass during the Fallas of 2022, an action that is part of in the ‘La Plantà del Vidre’ campaign, which seeks to make partygoers aware of the importance of recycling this type of packaging during the holidays.
In the outdoor area of the El Canó sports center in the Valencian town, each group of representatives of the different Fallas committees has sponsored a different tree, with the Fallas culminating their planting process within the framework of this environmental awareness campaign.
sponsor a tree
Each fallero couple has sponsored a Celtis australis tree (hackberry) and an identifying plate of sponsorship of each specimen has also been placed.
The Plaça de Pedralba fault, the Avinguda dels Furs fault and surrounding areas, the Alpelic fault and adjacent areas, the Plaça Major fault and surrounding areas, the Pla de l’Arc fault and the Colón–San Vicente de Paul fault have participated in the event.
The Ecovidrio initiative consists of an inter-municipal glass recycling contest, which is won by the locality among the eleven participants whose falleros recycle the most glass during the campaign and who spread the most about this initiative.
They participated during 2022 La Pobla de Vallbona, Llíria, Benaguasil, Cullera, Gandia, Catarroja, Torrent, Paterna, L’Eliana, Sueca and Algemesí.
The one who recycles the most glass wins
During the festivities, the different commissions must deposit their glass containers in the specific container closest to their houses and, when the festive season ends, these containers are collected and weighed in all the municipalities, in such a way that the one that has collected the most is the winner.
Last year the winner was Llíria, which won in the category of most recycling municipality, which has earned it the prize of choosing where in the town and at what time to plant trees to create a green space, which they have done this Friday in the sports hall.
This Valencian town also met the challenge posed by Ecovidrio to increase glass collection in the municipality by at least 5% during March 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year.
In addition, 90% of the participating failures overcame the challenge of pouring 400 kilos of glass waste into their nearest recycling container for this material.
“This year we are already in Fallas and ‘La Plantà del Vidre’ is back”, announced the Ecovidrio area technician, Manuel Sala, during the “plantà” of trees, developed in collaboration with the Generalitat and the Llíria City Council in the The general director of Quality and Environmental Education, Joan Piquer, and the mayor of Llíria, Joan Manuel Miguel, also participated.
In this sense, Sala thanked the municipality for its involvement and “active participation” during this activity, and expressed his hope that now, once planted, the residents “take care and enjoy the trees.”
This was also expressed by the mayor of Llíria, who explained that the tree planting organized by Ecovidrio culminates the Fallas 2022 and inaugurates those of 2023 in the municipality, which this Saturday will celebrate with its ‘Crida’ the kick-off of the festivities josefinas.
Likewise, he has promised “a giant paella” to the Fallas commissions of the municipality if, in this year’s ‘Plantà del Vidre’, they win again, as “another incentive for the Fallas to recycle”. EFE
