United Nations (EFE).- The Russian ambassador to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, gave a fiery speech before the United Nations Security Council against the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, and against the European Union, in which he it censures all their policies and accuses them of, among other things, Russophobia and corrupting traditional family values.
“When historians describe the years 2022 and 2023, in the chapter dedicated to the European Union, the words they probably use the most are degradation, impotence, myopia and Russophobia; in large part thanks not only to European leaders, but to European bureaucrats, including our speaker today, Mr Borrell,” Nebenzia said in the opening bars of a 13-minute speech.
Nebenzia began his speech by assuring that if at the last Council meeting to discuss cooperation between the EU and the UN he had assured that relations between Europe and Russia had bottomed out, since then the gap has continued to grow.
“It seems that under that background there was a hole” through which common relationships have continued to slide despite the fact that “these were almost non-existent,” he declared.
Nebenzia reminded Borrell of his statements in October 2022 when he compared Europe to a “garden” and most of the rest of the world to the “jungle”, which for the Russian diplomat shows “the genuine essence of European diplomacy”.
“European Russophobia”, according to Vasili Nebenzia
Regarding the alleged European Russophobia, Russia’s representative to the UN ironically assured that “we learned that freedom of expression in the European Union is equivalent to the prohibition of alternative points of view”, referring to the ban on broadcasts by Russian media such as Sputnik and Russia Today.
According to the ambassador, in Europe “there is a maniacal desire to defeat Russia on the battlefield through the Ukrainians” as well as the “most primitive Russophobia” reflected in opinion polls, in European capitals and at all kinds of events. , in which, according to Nebenzia, they want to eliminate Russia, its culture and even the achievements of its athletes.
“There is a completely unambiguous image about our European neighbors and the image gives rise to a desire to close the door and possibly bolt until this obscurantist and Russophobic agitation comes to an end,” he said.
In his speech, Nebenzia also assured that the EU is losing political autonomy and “is becoming an appendage” of NATO and defended that the cutting of economic and energy ties with Russia is taking its toll and will take its toll.
“Europe’s liberal market economy survives today thanks to government subsidies and aid. The prosperity and economic power of Europe was based, first and foremost, on the supply of cheap Russian energy, but as soon as it (Europe) ceased to exist, it became an economic colossus with feet of clay,” he added.
Russia lashes out at the US and the EU
In another allegation against the European Union, he also echoed “rumors”, in which he clarified he does not believe -but still mentioned-, which ensure that the US started the conflict with Russia in Ukraine, from which the He is one year old this Friday, to “destroy his European competitor”.
Likewise, he also resorted to misogyny and homophobia to charge against European policies, ensuring that the political bloc of the old continent has even lost its values.
“What achievements do they have left? They have only turned women into men or non-binary individuals or family values have been turned into something completely indecent. We acknowledge these advances of yours, but we will not compete in this regard. Don’t come to us with these values of yours,” she stated.
Minutes before, Josep Borrell had insisted in the Security Council that the European Union will continue to support Ukraine until Russia stops its attacks against Ukraine and withdraws from the occupied territory.
