Valencia, (EFE) or violent among their students.
Education will analyze the case
This was denounced by the directive in a communication addressed on February 8 to the Ministry of Education, which has announced that the educational inspection will analyze the case, that the regional secretary will meet with those responsible for the center and that two teachers will be sent to the center of Therapeutic Pedagogy, one of them escort and employee of Equality.
In a statement in which the faculty of the institute gives its support to the resigned board, the teachers have denounced the “neglect that the center suffers from the Ministry” and have added that the lack of resources “has become clear worrying way in recent months through several dramatic situations related to mental health problems.
Suicide attempts and assaults
Among them, they have reported “from suicide attempts in the center itself to attacks on members of the educational community, some physical and very serious” and have pointed out that “the number and severity of incidents related to mental health have increased exponentially in recent years” until reaching 15 procedures opened for suicidal, self-injurious or violent behavior.
“We have urgently requested additional specific resources (personnel from Therapeutic Pedagogy escort or home care) to prevent them and control the most serious cases, a request that to date has not been met,” they have denounced.
High number of students
On the other hand, they have stressed that the high number of students in the center and its characteristics “requires strengthening the educational guidance department” since “students with specific support needs need a socio-psycho-pedagogical evaluation, as well as attention and follow-up by the Therapeutic Pedagogy teachers and educators”.
Specifically, in La Moreria “there is only one guidance counselor for the entire center and a single PT position for 34 students with specific needs”, and the faculty has demanded at least one guidance position and another full-time PT position.
They have also demanded more hours of teaching in linguistic areas, they have denounced that Education has denied them reinforcement hours and they have claimed the need for an elevator so that students with mobility problems can access the center.
“It is inadmissible to call from the direction of a center and there is no one on the other side, to make a formal request and never get a response”, they have lamented, and have concluded that “the feeling of abandonment has taken its toll on a cloister every overwhelmed and, finally, has led to the resignation of an excellent management team”.
Analysis of the situation with Education
From the Ministry of Education, for their part, they have assured that last week the management team of the center held a meeting with the Territorial Director of the Ministry in Valencia to analyze the situation.
When they received the letter from the resigned board of directors, they also urged the educational inspectorate to make a report on the situation and have announced that the regional secretary of Education will meet with the management team of the center next week.
In addition, from the Ministry they have assured that the General Directorate of Educational Inclusion has activated measures such as the assignment of a Therapeutic Pedagogy teacher and another PT escort, the latter dependent on the Ministry of Equality, in addition to reinforcement personnel in Guidance.
“The human team of the Ministry is working with the management team of the center, taking the necessary steps to redirect this situation”, they have concluded.
