Madrid/Valladolid (EFE).- The data provided this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on housing in Castilla y León and the rest of the autonomies, referring to 2021, indicate that 79.4 percent of them are already owned by its inhabitants.
In addition, 43.4 percent of the homes in Castilla y León are already paid in full and 21.6 percent are still pending a mortgage payment.
In addition, this same statistic adds that 14.3 percent of the homes were obtained by their owners through an inheritance or donation, 2.6 percent free or at a low price and 11.8 percent are under a rent.
At the national level, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Navarra are the communities with the highest proportion of owned homes, above 80%, but Madrid, Murcia and Andalusia are the autonomies where a greater part of the homes are still pending payment of a mortgage, about 30%.
On the opposite side are the two archipelagos and Catalonia, with less than 70% of the homes owned, and Galicia, very prominent with only 18%, together with Castilla y León, Asturias, Extremadura, the Canary Islands and Aragón, below the 25%, as territories with a lower proportion of homes still mortgaged.
These are some of the data offered by the 2021 Survey of Essential Characteristics of the Population and Housing (ECEPOV), published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics, which provides figures on the tenure regime of the main dwellings, among other things. issues.
Differences between CCAA
The differences between communities in this area are notable. For example, while in the Basque Country 82.1% of households are owned homes, in the Canary Islands they are 65.1% and the minimum is reached in Melilla with 62.5%, close to 20 percentage points less than in Euskadi.
The rent, for which 15.9% of Spanish households have opted, almost doubles in Melilla (31.0%) and is also high in the Balearic Islands (23.4%), Catalonia (23.2%) and Canary Islands (22.1%), while in Extremadura it only reaches 9.4%, in Cantabria it remains at 11% and in Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, the Basque Country and Castilla y León it does not reach 12%.
mortgaged home
The INE statistics reveal that among households with home ownership, 38.1% were acquired through a mortgage loan that had already been settled, while 26.4% are still mortgaged.
In this case, too, there are large territorial differences, since 29.8% of Madrid households are in this second situation, Murcian 29.7 and Andalusian 28.3, but in Galicia only the 18.0%, in Castilla y León 21.6% and in Asturias 22.3%.
The house is owned and already paid for by 46.3% of Basque households and more than 43% of those from La Rioja and Castilian Leon, compared to only 26% of Melilla and 27.5% of the Balearic Islands.
The lower proportion of outstanding mortgages in Galicia may have to do with the fact that this community is where a greater number of homes have been received by inheritance or donation, 22.9%, more than four times more than in Madrid (5.0% ).
This community is also the one in which fewer households own their home free or at a low price (for example paid by the company), only 1.83%, while in Ceuta they are 4.79% and in Extremadura 4 ,75%.EFE
