Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The former national deputy of the PSOE for Las Palmas Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo has declared this Wednesday, after leaving the Court where he has testified for more than five hours in the Mediator case, that he is innocent and has a conscience “completely calm” because she has never committed any crime.
Fuentes Curbelo, who was arrested on Monday and has been released today on charges of bribery, falsehood, money laundering, influence peddling and belonging to an organized criminal group, has insisted in statements after leaving the court that he is innocent and has assured that he is not He has committed none of the crimes of which he is charged.
During his statement before the investigating court number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Fuentes Curbelo was accompanied by relatives who have shown their support.
His lawyer, Raúl Méndez, has said that the most complicated and unpleasant part of this judicial process had concluded today and has shown his certainty that the innocence of his defendant will finally be confirmed.
The lawyer has predicted that the judicial procedure will be long and complicated, but that it will end up demonstrating that his client has not committed any crime.
The judge, in addition to ordering his release with charges, has ruled that from now on the former deputy must appear every fifteen days in court to sign.
As reported by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, the Prosecutor’s Office – the only prosecution in the case at the moment – has not requested prison for Fuentes Curbelo because it does not appreciate a flight risk or considers that there is a danger of destroying evidence.
Of the thirteen arrested for this plot of alleged extortion of businessmen in the livestock and food sectors in exchange for receiving favorable treatment in inspections or in the process of European aid, only the retired general of the Civil Guard Francisco Javier Espinosa has been imprisoned. .
