Sources from the Sallent town hall have explained to EFE that the sisters belong to a family of Argentine origin, which would have been residing in this Barcelona town for just over two years.
Around six in the afternoon on Tuesday, the Catalan police received notice of the event that occurred in Estació de Sallent street, and when the emergency services arrived they could not do anything to save the life of one of the two minors.
Twin sister in serious condition
Her twin sister was able to be stabilized at the scene, and later transferred to the Parc Taulí hospital in Sabadell (Barcelona) in serious condition.
The Mossos are keeping an investigation open to determine if the event was due to an accidental fall or if, for some reason, the young women jumped voluntarily from the balcony.
The Department of Education of the Generalitat has informed EFE that the Psychopedagogical Counseling and Guidance Team is aware of the facts, for which reason it has activated the corresponding protocol to give support to colleagues and professionals at the center where they studied the twins to manage grief, together with the Emotional Well-being Program team.
For its part, after this event, the Sallent City Council has decreed three days of mourning and has suspended all scheduled public events, including Carnival.
From the consistory they have indicated this Tuesday in a statement that this event is “shocking and painful for the whole of our population”, for which three days of mourning have been decreed and they have requested the utmost respect for the affected family.
“We ask that false or uncorroborated information not be disseminated to respect the right to privacy and avoid creating even more pain,” the note says.
The mayor of Sallent, Oriol Ribalta, has made the town hall available to the family of the two minors and to the educational centers, for whatever they need.
