Mexico City (EFE) (SSPC).
These data are compared with the 2,426 homicides in the first month of 2022 and imply a monthly increase of 2.1% compared to the 2,529 murders of last December.
Despite the rebound, the head of the SSPC, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, argued that the figure is 16% less than the all-time high of 3,074 homicides in July 2018.
“The trend remains downward. In the victims of intentional homicide there is a significant decrease compared to previous years, ”said the secretary at the morning government conference.
With these figures, there were a total of 31,127 homicide victims in the last 12 months, an average of 85 per day and a decrease of 5.5% compared to the same previous period, when there were 32,936, a daily average of 90.
Femicides drop in Mexico
In contrast, there were 72 femicides, gender-based murders of women, a reduction of 11.11%.
“In the case of feminicide, the crime is also seen to drop by 28.7% (compared to the beginning of the six-year term). Remember that it is from 2020 when this crime is classified and begins to be counted ”, assured Rodríguez.
These figures are reported after the 7.1% annual drop in homicides in 2022, when Mexico registered 30,968 murders after the two most violent years in its history, under the mandate of López Obrador, with 34,690 murder victims in 2019 and 34,554 in 2020, followed by 33,308 in 2021.
