Madrid (EFE) 460 million euros.
“We hope so, of course,” Barbón responded at an informative meeting organized by Nueva Economía Fórum in which he was asked about the possibility that the steel company finally opts for another project in other European countries where it has productive activity. .
The European Commission approved last Friday a Spanish state aid of 460 million euros to help ArcelorMittal to partially decarbonise its steel production processes in Asturias, where it adds some 6,000 jobs.
Sources from the steel multinational assured EFE that the approval of the aid by the community authorities is something positive that allows progress in their plans in Spain, while the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, said that it is a “great news for Asturias” because “the ArcelorMittal project will allow the modernization and decarbonization of its industrial plants and the maintenance of employment”.
Barbón has praised Sánchez’s involvement with this project after having held up to seven meetings with the Mittal family, which runs the steel company, when his predecessor, Mariano Rajoy, held zero meetings. EFE
