Madrid (EFE).- The Government of Spain has extended the offer of Spanish nationality to the 94 Nicaraguan citizens who have just been declared stateless by the judicial authorities of their country, among them the human rights defender Vilma Núñez and the writer and Politician Sergio Ramirez.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has informed Ramírez himself of this offer, who in turn has addressed a letter to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, as reported this Friday by the Ministry in a official statement.
This offer is in addition to the one made on February 10 by the Government to the 222 people expelled from Nicaragua and to whom their Nicaraguan nationality was withdrawn.
The proposal of the Spanish Government is extended “to any citizen of Nicaragua who in the future may be left stateless due to the decisions” of the Executive of Daniel Ortega.
On February 9, the Nicaraguan authorities expelled to the United States a group of 222 political prisoners for “traitors to the homeland”, including seven people who tried to challenge Ortega for the presidency of the country last year and five priests, whom they disqualified. for life to hold public or elected office.
In addition, on the 15th, the Nicaraguan authorities stripped another 94 Nicaraguans of their nationality, including religious, diplomats, former state officials, human rights defenders, Sandinista dissidents, opponents, journalists, academics, students, businessmen, and merchants.
