Logroño, (EFE) next months.
The IU deputy, Henar Moreno, has defended this proposition and has stressed the need to guarantee that the food served in the canteens is balanced and adapted to the nutritional needs of each age group; she has called for menus to be made up primarily of fresh food and overseen by nutrition and dietetics professionals.
“Sometimes for some children, the food in the dining room is the only one they receive in a balanced way” and “however, there is less and less fresh fish and frozen vegetables and meat are bought,” he stated.
He has related how the disappearance of the kitchens in many centers led to the introduction of “catering” in the canteens, something that does not help to “teach to eat” which is also a function of these facilities in schools, he has considered.
“There are also complaints from families about the amount of food” and “although it is true that the food offered complies with the regulations, there would be more, it is not the most appropriate thing, for example, in a place like Calahorra, with its vegetable garden , frozen vegetables are bought in schools”.
The PSOE has demanded that time be given to carry out a study on the issue and that the school council of each center be the one to decide if the kitchens are reopened or not; Socialist deputy Teresa Villuendas has admitted that dividing the service into batches can make it more expensive “and that is why its feasibility must be studied” although “it is true that only large companies can attend with a single batch”, she acknowledged.
Belinda León, from Grupo Ciudadanos, has asked that the awarding of this service “not focus only on price” and that “the quality and contribution of fresh products” be taken into account.
María Martín, from the Popular Group, has assured that this proposal is similar to one presented by Ciudadanos last September “and from the PSOE it was said that it was opportunistic” with which “what is now, three months from the elections, Yes, it is posturing” because “what is being requested was necessary then and it is now, and it will be the Government of Gonzalo Capellán that will put an end to this and other nonsense,” he concluded.
