They warn of the risk of using “cosmetic” contact lenses from “Todo a 100”

In a press release and ahead of the start of carnival, the date on which the purchase of these contact lenses increases as a complement to costumes, opticians have warned that using these contact lenses without having been prescribed can cause eye injuries and even visual loss.

These non-corrective lenses, designed solely to modify the appearance and color of the eyes, are easily available, especially through the Internet, without any sanitary control.

Sensation of dryness, eye redness, conjunctivitis, inflammation and even corneal abrasion are some of the problems that can appear from the use of purchased lenses without the intervention of a professional such as an optician-optometrist.

The president of the General Council of Colleges of Opticians-Optometrists, Juan Carlos Martínez, has stressed that cosmetic contact lenses are individually adapted medical devices, “and must meet the same requirements and parameters as vision compensating lenses, so They must be adapted by a professional in an optical health establishment”.

And he recalled that 90% of the problems with lenses arise from poor handling and carelessness, in addition to the prolongation of the time of use.
