Torrelavega, Feb 16 (EFE).- The players of the Spanish rugby team, the Lions, walked through the streets of Torrelavega this Thursday, before playing a match against Georgia this Saturday, and sweetened themselves by trying the typical dessert of the municipality: the famous puff pastry polkas.
The players and the technical team have walked to what is known as Red Square, where they have been received by the mayor of the municipality, Javier López Estrada, and part of the government team, who have given them a painting with the image of Torrelavega and the stadium where they will play this Saturday.
After taking the family photo in front of the “#Torrelaveganizate” sign located in this square, the City Council gave each of the players a bag with the typical Torrelavega dessert.
“It’s very good” or “it’s incredible” are some of the comments that have been heard among the players.
The Spanish rugby team is playing on the field of El Malecón de Torrelavega, against Georgia, the first place in group A of the Rugby Europe Championship, in one of the most attractive matches that can be seen today, in which they face to number 13 (Georgia) and 16 (Spain) in the world ranking.
The Lions arrive in Torrelavega after their victory this past Sunday in Germany (14-32) and ensuring qualification for the semifinals of this Rugby Europe Championship. It is a young Spanish team, under renovation, with most of its members under 25 years of age.
