Zaragoza, (EFE).- The consumer price index (CPI) rose 5.8 percent in January in Aragon compared to the same month last year, one tenth less than in December and the national average.
However, according to data published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), core inflation accelerated to 7.5% per year in the Community and in Spain, five tenths above the previous month in both cases. Core inflation is the one that excludes unprocessed food and energy products from its calculation.
Compared to January of a year ago, prices have risen more in Aragon in the group of food and non-alcoholic beverages, 15.3%, followed by hotels, cafes and restaurants (7.9%). They have also risen in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.6%), household items (6.5%), transportation (5.4%), others (4.7%), clothing and footwear (4.1%), education (3.2%), leisure and culture (2.9%), communications (2.4%) and medicine (1.4%). They have fallen in housing by 7.2% due to the more intense decrease than in January of a year ago in electricity prices.
By provinces, the inflation rate in December stood at 6% per year in Huesca, 6.9% in Teruel and 5.6% in Zaragoza.
In monthly variation, prices have fallen in clothing and footwear (9.7%), housing (4.4%), leisure and culture (2.4%), hotels, cafes and restaurants (0.5%) and household items (0.4%) and increased in communications (4.5%), transportation (4%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.2%), others (0.6%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0. 3%), teaching (0.2%) and medicine (0.1%).
