Oviedo (EFE).- Asturias registered 13,561 work accidents with sick leave last year, which represents an increase of 23.3 compared to 2021 and the highest figure since 2011, according to data published this Wednesday by the Asturian Society of Economic and Industriales (Sadei), which, however, reflect a decrease in serious and fatal claims.
Of the total accidents, 13,483 were minor, while 65 were serious, eleven fewer than in 2021, and 13 fatal, seven fewer.
In addition, 1,146 accidents occurred “in itinere”, that is, on the way to or from work, of which 1,137 were minor; eight, serious, and one, deadly.
In the previous year, 2021, the occupational accident rate rose 14.7 percent in the Principality, up to 11,001 accidents, of which 76 were serious, thirteen more than in 2020, and 20 fatalities, two more and the highest number in three years.
The increase registered in 2021 occurred after the occupational accident rate fell by 20.4 percent in 2020, a year that was marked by the partial paralysis of the economy due to the covid pandemic.
Since the year 2000, the occupational accident rate has been reduced to less than half, from figures that reached 24,000 work accidents a year, with more than 200 serious and up to 44 fatalities, according to Sadei’s data. EFE
