Madrid (EFE) with the arrest of at least 15 people linked to the organization in the Community of Madrid.
Together with the boss and founder of the gang in Spain, Eric Velastegui, who is now 45 years old and has been deprived of his liberty since 2003 for a rape at gunpoint, the authorities have arrested two of his lieutenants and his current partner, according to what sources of the investigation have informed EFE.
The detainees are accused of the crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, drug trafficking, injuries and threats, among others.
Twisted, the operation against the Latin King gang
The operation, called Torcido, has been carried out as a result of an investigation initiated by the Civil Guard in June 2021, when a brawl broke out between members of youth gangs in the Madrid town of Galapagar, where it is believed that Velastegui, alias “El Padrino”, founded the Latin Kings in the country in the year 2000.
According to sources consulted by EFE, in recent times there had been several clashes between warring factions within the Latin King, which put the Civil Guard on the organization’s trail.
The police authorities had detected a “reactivation” of the gang in different parts of the Community of Madrid, including Galapagar, a municipality in which the anti-gang plan of the Government Delegation is still active.
In fact, the National Police arrested six presumed members of the Latin King, four of them minors, on September 2 for a brawl registered in the patron saint festivities of the town of San Sebastián de los Reyes in which a gang member and a neighbor were injured by two shots.
