In a statement released by the British Foreign Office, the five countries express concern about the Israeli announcement that it is advancing the construction of 10,000 settlements (homes) and intends to start a process to regularize nine that were previously considered illegal .
“We strongly oppose these unilateral actions that will only serve to exacerbate tensions between Israelis and Palestinians and undermine efforts to achieve a negotiated two-state solution,” the Foreign Office note reads.
In the statement, the five countries express their support for a “just and lasting peace in the Middle East, which must be achieved through direct negotiations between the parties.”
“Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in peace – he indicates -, with the same measures of freedom, security and prosperity. We reaffirm our commitment to help Israelis and Palestinians realize the vision of a fully integrated Israel in the Middle East living side by side with a sovereign Palestinian state.”
The decision of the government of Benjamin Netanyahu is seen as retaliation for the death of three Israelis in an intentional hit-and-run perpetrated by a Palestinian last week in a colony in East Jerusalem.
