Santa Cruz (Bolivia) (EFE) to another seeking medical attention.
People line up the night before with the aim of obtaining a file to be treated or for one of their relatives who presents dengue symptoms such as fever or headache, but many do not make the quota and must wander through different centers until they find one in which they can attend them, confirmed EFE.
One of the most saturated is the Hospital del Niño in the city of Santa Cruz, where all its wards are overcrowded with patients with symptoms of this disease and which has reached the point of caring for the sick in the corridors of the center or in the reception.
Some of the people are looking for a space for their family member for at least three days and have already visited at least three hospitals where they could not be treated due to the high demand for cases.
Actions before the increase in cases
Faced with this situation, the Municipal Government of Santa Cruz set up 30 beds in the 10th district of that city and hired some 60 employees to care for the sick, in order to alleviate the burden of patients in second and third level hospitals. .
Likewise, the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) of that region works in reception centers for the elderly to diagnose dengue in a timely manner and also to carry out cleanings to avoid more cases.
Dengue, transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, causes high fever, headache, vomiting and skin rashes and can be fatal in its hemorrhagic form.
The insect that causes the disease reproduces in times of frequent rain in hot, urban areas of Bolivia, so it takes advantage of any stagnant water space for its reproduction.
