Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- Luis Blas Cabrera, grandson of the physicist Blas Cabrera, considered the father of Physics in Spain and who died in exile in Mexico in 1945, has thanked the return of part of his grandfather’s legacy to his heirs, who must decide their future destiny.
Part of the family had demanded the return of the legacy of the Spanish scientist, in particular the manuscript of his work “History of Physics”, a fact that occurred last October 2022, according to a public letter from Luis Blas Cabrera, to which EFE has had access.
In the text, Cabrera especially thanks the person who guarded this legacy and who delivered a dossier with three folders with handwritten documentation of the famous scientist to his granddaughter and in the presence of a representative of the Faculty of Physical Sciences who guards said material until the grandchildren decide their future destiny.
Luis Blas Cabrera thanks Francisco González de Posada for “the manor” for the return of an important part of the legacy that was claimed and apologizes “for the bad times I have put him through.”
It also thanks him for the efforts dedicated to the dissemination of the figure of Blas Cabrera, especially between the years 1988 and 2004.
The mortal remains of Blas Cabrera Felipe, one of the great scientists of the first half of the 20th century, a friend of Einstein, Curie, Sommerfeld and Bohr, were buried in October in La Laguna (Spain), transferred from Mexico, 77 years after his death and 85 years after going into exile because of the Civil War.
After having gone into exile in France in 1937, Blas Cabrera moved to Mexico in 1941, where he was welcomed as a professor by the National Autonomous University and where, already suffering from Parkinson’s, he finished his manuscript “History of Physics”, before dying in 1945.
In the request for the return of the legacy made in September, the family considered that it was essential for the heirs, who wanted to make it available to the scientific and educational community in Spain. EFE
