Valencia firefighters rescue three people in Turkey

Valencia (EFE).- Members of the Emergency and Catastrophe Rescue Unit (UREC) of the Valencia Fire Consortium managed to rescue three people alive from the rubble of the earthquake that has shaken Turkey: after making ten assessments and when They returned to the base camp, they got the Gordo, an “unforgettable” experience for the team.

This has been narrated by the person in charge of the UREC expedition from Valencia in Turkey to help in the rescue efforts, Ramón Pérez, who remains with the dignity and knowledge of people who have lost “everything” and who receive rescuers with “much love and gratitude.”

Upon his return to Spain this Sunday night after several days in the country, Pérez points out that the experience is very intense and exhausting, physically and mentally, but at the same time “very enriching”, “an unforgettable life experience”.

Although the preparations and administrative procedures “wear” until authorization to leave is received and when they arrived they were “destroyed”, they received “an internal force shot” due to the impact of the images in Turkey.

In those moments “you think that I can’t complain about anything, the cold or the fatigue” when you see the people who have lost “everything”, their relatives, their homes, their jobs, recalls Pérez, to add: “It’s like a rush that gives you the body, that endures what is not written ».

Almost war scenario in Turkey

There they witnessed an “almost warlike, Dantesque” scenario, in a population of 350,000 inhabitants, almost like Alicante, with practically all the buildings demolished and those that had not fallen, were very affected and in danger of collapsing while the rescuers are working on the around.

During the day, the firefighters from Valencia carried out ten evaluations, none of them successful, but when they returned to the base camp in the evening, at one of the jobs and after six hours, they were able to free a father and his family through a horizontal gallery. daughter, who had been locked in a small hole protected by an armored door in the total collapse of that building.

They endured three days in these conditions and when they were rescued after hearing their voices from inside the rubble, it was “very special, a total joy for us.”

From a nearby building that was in a dangerous state, they rescued a third person, whom their relatives received “with great emotion,” says the rescuer.
