Thousands of people take to the streets in defense of public health

Madrid (EFE).- Thousands of people took to the streets this Sunday in several Spanish cities to defend public health and protest against the health policy of their regional governments with a common denominator, the rejection of the “cuts” in Primary Care .

Some 250,000 people have gathered in Madrid, according to data from the Government Delegation in the region, and one million people, according to the organizers, with the aim of protesting against the “dismantling” and “privatization” of Primary Care that , in his opinion, is being perpetrated by the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The attendees have chanted slogans such as “Public Health”, “So, like this, not a step back, we are going to win this fight”, “The united people will never be defeated”, “Then you will say that we are five or six”, “Ayuso , coward, the people are on fire”, “Ayuso and his Government go to hell” and “You have to remember when voting”.

To the rhythm of batucadas and in a festive atmosphere, they have also carried posters with slogans such as “public health: Ayuso, go now”, “I continue to applaud the toilets”, “who takes care of those who take care of us”, “united neighborhoods for public health” or “quality public health for all”.

The protest has been joined by political parties of the left, unions and different citizen organizations, in addition to other social entities, which have supported the participants and have claimed the need to shield what they consider to be the “jewel in the crown” of the system. Spanish public.

The center of Santiago hosts thousands of protesters

Santiago de Compostela has also been the scene of massive mobilizations this Sunday with a demonstration that has brought together more than 50,000 people, according to the organization, and 22,000, according to the Local Police, against the health policy of the Xunta de Galicia and to defend health public and primary care.

Convened by the SOS Sanidade Pública platform and supported by institutions, parties, unions and entities from all over Galicia, the protest was held behind the banner “Na defensa e mellora da sanidade pública. We want primary care for us”.

The objective, according to the spokesperson for the SOS Public Health platform Manuel Martín, has been to cry out against the “impossible mix of incapacity and privatizing intention” of the Xunta in health matters.

Burgos calls for public and quality Primary Care

In Burgos, 11,000 people, according to the Local Police, have joined the demands of Madrid and Galicians and have also asked that the Burgos University Hospital be recovered for the public, instead of the current service concession model not assistance.

After a banner with the slogan ‘Primary, public and quality care’, the demonstration, called by the Platform for the Defense of Public Health, toured the center of Burgos before ending in the city’s Plaza Mayor.

One of the spokespersons for the convening platform, Pablo Oyagüez, has described as “unheard of” that there are waits of more than 72 hours for a Primary Care consultation and that thousands of citizens of Castilla y León do not even have an assigned doctor.

“This situation means the failure of Primary Care, but also a worsening of health results and hospital care,” he explained.
