The University of La Rioja (UR) will start the Degree in Computational Linguistics and Language Technology next academic year 2023-2024, a new university degree, pioneer in Spain, with an initial offer of 25 dual and interdisciplinary places.
This was announced this Monday by the president of the Government of La Rioja, Concha Andreu, and the rector of the UR, Juan Carlos Ayala, at a press conference, in which they detailed the news of the agreement signed between both parties for the development of training programs, within the regional strategic projects Valle de la Lengua and Enorregion.
This new degree will combine technical and humanistic knowledge, will have 240 credits distributed in 4 courses and responds to the demand of new professions linked to artificial intelligence, the rector has indicated.
In the technical part, programming, computing, language processing and artificial intelligence will be studied; and in the humanities, subjects of language sciences and computational linguistics will be studied; as well as communicative competence, both in Spanish and English and with 18 months of internship.
In addition, the UR will launch the International Wine Campus and the School of Creative Writing, from which a new master’s degree in Spanish narrative in all its facets and practical workshops will also emerge, in which renowned writers will participate.
The Government of La Rioja will provide the UR with 10.4 million euros over the next three years for the development of everything related to the training offer of both strategic projects, an investment that Andreu has described as “extraordinary” and that will be will be completed with European funds.
In the case of the Enorregion, the UR will promote the training offer in viticulture, oenology and management of wine companies, to offer solid training adapted to current and future demand and attract students from all over the world, especially from countries Spanish-speaking, the president specified.
In parallel, a new offer will be created, such as the Master of Wine Tourism with an international and professional character, which is expected to be implemented in 2024 with a duration of one year and with 25 to 30 places.
Another area of work is the leadership of an alliance of European Wine Universities, which will enable the development of a coordinated teaching and research strategy with prestigious institutions and universities in this field, the rector has reported. EFE.
