Sports Writing (EFE).- The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, two-time world champion, stated this Monday, after the presentation of the AMR23, the car of his new Formula One team for 2023, that he is “impatient to start” driving .
“I have always said that I could see the ambition that shines through in the AMF1 team. And now that we have launched the car in this new factory, I think everyone can see the magnitude of the ambition and determination that is at the heart of this organization,” Alonso said in statements released by the team.
Alonso believes that the AMR23 “looks incredibly neat and is very efficient”. “I was pleasantly surprised when I tried last year’s car for the first time, and I think there’s a lot of performance we can unlock together. I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
During the AMR23 presentation ceremony, Fernando Alonso stated that the team has “ambition, investment and talent… a good recipe for success”. “I hope this one arrives as soon as possible,” he said.
“We have to make sure we have a good foundation for the future of Aston Martin cars. Last year the team had some difficulties in the first part of the season, but then there was progress in the second. There will be more progress in 2023. With our feet on the ground, we will never be happy being fourth, third or second. We may not win immediately, but we have to make sure that the base is good for the future”, said the Spaniard.
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, pilots of the AMR23
The Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant team presented in partnership from Silverstone (United Kingdom) the AMR23 that will be driven by Alonso and the Canadian Lance Stroll.
The AMR23 is a considerable evolution of last year’s chassis, which was refined throughout the season to become a constant points contender. In the third year of the Aston Martin team, “the objective is to deliver a car that is competitive from the beginning,” says the team in a note.
24-year-old Lance Stroll is embarking on his seventh year in Formula One and has been a staple throughout the team’s development. He has contested 122 grand prix.
“Looking at AMR23, I can see a lot of new ideas and aggressive work around the package and aerodynamics that should really help us heading into the second year of the new regulations,” says Lance Stroll.
“I really want to work with Fernando. I have always gotten along very well with him and it will be fantastic to race alongside him”, adds Stroll, for whom the first objective is to consistently score points.
Other pilots that complete the team
In addition, the team will have support drivers such as the current FIA Formula 2 champion, Brazilian Felipe Drugovich, as a test driver; the current Formula E champion, the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne, who will be a tester and reserve in his return to an F1 that he knows well, since he was Alonso’s teammate in 2017 and 2018 at McLaren.
The list as ambassadors of the team is completed by the British Jessica Hawkins and the Spanish Pedro de la Rosa.
For Lawrence Stroll, executive president, “this year’s move” to the “new and modern factory is more than a serious declaration of intent, and will strengthen and empower each and every one of the members of this organization considerably.”
“It will also help us fulfill our ambition to close the gap to the front of the grid and, over time, become genuine championship leaders,” he added.
“Over the last year we have shown the determination and faith to move forward, and have built an all-new car to match our vision and ambition,” said Stroll.
