Pamplona (EFE).- Seven associations have commemorated this Saturday in Pamplona the day declared by the Parliament of Navarra in memory of the forcibly displaced persons of ETA and their victims, an act in which they have denounced before authorities, political parties and electoral candidates the ” whitewashing and lies” and the change of “prisoners for budgets”.
The tribute was organized by the Navarre Association of Victims of ETA Terrorism (ANVITE), the Tomás Caballero Foundation, Neighbors of Peace in Berriozar, the Pompaelo Association, Navarra Civil Society, Recover Navarra, Double 12, Ego Non, Libertad Now and the Association for Tolerance and was attended by the President of the Foral Parliament, the First Vice President of the Government of Navarra and the Ministers of Citizen Relations and Economy and Finance.
The majority of the Provincial Legislature and the Pamplona City Council have also been represented, as well as parliamentarians in the Cortes Generales, parties and candidates for the regional and municipal elections in May, some of whom have made a floral offering before the monument to the victims at the end of the act, as well as commanders of the Foral Police and National Police.
Before Julio Vidaurre, vice president of ANVITE, has read a statement in which the conveners denounce that almost a year has passed since a report from the European Parliament recommended making the prison benefits of ETA prisoners subject to collaboration for the clarification of their attacks and avoid the public glorification of terrorists when they leave prison due to the pain and re-victimization that this entails.
Prisoners for budgets
«None of that has been done, the other way around. Little by little and through their political arm, Bildu, they are achieving their objectives: bringing terrorists closer to prisons in the Basque Country and Navarre, the transfer of jurisdiction over prisons, the exaltation of the figure of the terrorist through tributes that they render to them and the justification of the violence that they transmit to their new generations”, they criticize.
And they add that the Parliament of Navarra took 40 years from the promulgation of the Constitution to declare this day in memory of the victims of ETA and, “in less than five, some of these politicians agreed with the unrepentant heirs of the criminal gang the approaches of prisoners in exchange for budgets with which to stay in power: prisoners for budgets ».
For this reason, the organizing associations have demanded for all the victims of ETA truth, memory, dignity and justice, the same claim contained in the posters displayed by some of the attendees.
Truth, they say, “because enough of whitewashing and lies. Here there was no armed struggle, there was a murderous terrorist group and its victims”, for which they criticize the “revisionist eagerness” of those who “try to hide the shame of their actions, once again depriving the victims of their history and their pain”.
They also ask for memory to keep their “social and political recognition” alive, dignity because the victims are those who represent “the dignity of democracy” and justice to avoid their abandonment and condemn the terrorists, since, they specify, “as long as we are placed in the same balance to the victims and the executioners there will be no justice».
“We have a moral obligation to be and continue to be” with the victims of ETA because “passivity is the origin of tyrannies,” the statement underlines.
