The exhibition of emergency equipment and means organized by the 112 Center took place in the field of the Palacio de Sobrellano de Comillas, in commemoration of the European Service Day, which is celebrated today.

There has also been a rescue exercise by the Cantabria Government helicopter team, which later had to attend to an accident at the Alto Campoo station, and an intervention with drones, among other activities.
Specifically, today the firefighters of 112, the two government helicopters, 061, Natural Environment, National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police, Maritime Rescue, Red Cross, Santander Volunteer Firefighters and groups of Civil Protection volunteers show their operational capabilities. , who will provide vehicles and materials to deal with the most diverse emergency situations, and will explain to visitors what they want to know about the interventions they carry out.
The President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, has visited, together with the Minister of the Presidency, Paula Fernández, the exhibition, which has had a large influx of visitors.
“A lot won” if you educate yourself in safety
Revilla highlighted the effectiveness of the emergency teams in Cantabria, with great professionals at the helm and modern material resources, who work for the safety of citizens and of whom “we can be very proud.”
“Security must be guaranteed as far as possible,” said the president, who has opted to educate children on how to avoid risky and reckless situations because, if they are educated in safety from a young age, there will be “a lot gained ».
In addition, he has considered that this exhibition is a good opportunity to show citizens how emergency services work and that “they know that a part of their taxes is destined for their safety.”
For her part, the Minister of the Presidency highlighted the involvement of the emergency services in this exhibition, which demonstrates, in her opinion, their commitment to the public, the preventive action they carry out and the importance of knowing the scope of the Center for Emergency attention 112.
“A single call to 112 starts all these assistance devices, in perfect coordination between the different public administrations,” Fernández has assessed.
In his opinion, “the key” when dealing with an emergency is coordination and, for this reason, he has assessed the presence in the sample of all the intervention services that work to “provide better, faster and more efficient care.”
In addition, he has highlighted the preparation of the professionals of these services who are qualified to respond to different types of rescue, taking into account that Cantabria has caves, beaches, cliffs and mountains, and “they are prepared to act in any environment”.
More than 276,000 calls to 112 in 2022
The 112 emergency care center of the Government of Cantabria received 276,509 calls last year, representing 757 per day and an increase of 2.38 percent compared to those received in 2021.
The Minister of the Presidency, Paula Fernández, this Friday took stock of the actions of the emergency service of Cantabria on the occasion of the European Day of this public service, which is celebrated tomorrow, Saturday.
Together with the head of the Cantabria Emergency Service, Íñigo Claramunt, Fernández stressed that this is the first year of “absolute normality” after two years marked by the pandemic, and in which the type of emergencies has varied “a lot”.
Half of the calls to 112 required the management of emergency situations, 13.8 percent more, while “hollow” contacts have decreased by 12.4%.
The counselor has ensured that these data indicate that this help number is increasingly used by citizens and reinforces the belief that 112 is “better known” and “more internalized” every day.
The 276,509 calls have resulted in 76,192 emergency interventions, 4.56 percent more than last year, which means 397 per day.
Of these interventions, the most numerous have been health emergencies, some 30,000, followed by traffic and circulation, citizen safety requirements, accidents of various types and rescues, citizen protection actions, urban and forest fires.
The good weather makes the announcements increase
For months, the ones that received the most calls were summer (July and August) and October due to the good weather that Cantabria has had in recent years.
Of the total incidents managed, the firefighters acted on 2,415 occasions, an increase of 25.3 percent compared to 2021, which means that they are already at pre-pandemic levels.
His performances responded to fires, traffic accidents, sanitation of damaged buildings or the removal of Asian hornet nests.
In addition, calls to 112 required 257 occasions for the mobilization of the helicopter rescue team from the Government of Cantabria.
The main cause of mobilization was mountain accidents (90); followed by sea, coast and beach (88); support in the extinction of forest fires (29); urgent medical transfers (11) and 39 for other causes such as searches, recognition of disasters or traffic accidents.
On the other hand, the helicopter used for forest fires, search support and disaster assessment carried out 15 interventions.
