Cádiz/Ceuta, (EFE).- Shipping companies have suspended maritime communications in the Strait on the line between the ports of Ceuta and Algeciras (Cádiz) as a result of the strong easterly storm that yesterday prevented any of the four ships from sailing boats linking both shores.
Sources from the Ceuta Port Authority have informed EFE that the high-speed ships “Avemar Dos” from Baleria, “Ciudad de Ceuta” from Armas Trasmediterránea and “Levante Jet” from FRS as well as the conventional ferry “Passió per Formentera” de Balearia continue with their suspended services.
This cancellation of the trips occurs as a result of the persistence of adverse weather conditions due to the force of the easterly wind that yesterday caused all scheduled tours to be cancelled.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has maintained the orange level since yesterday morning in the geographical area of Ceuta due to coastal phenomena since the wind reaches a speed of between 62 and 87 kilometers per hour and the easterly wind blows at sea. force 8 with waves from 4 to 5 meters high.
Wind force and waves
On the morning of this Saturday, the first ship that was scheduled to set sail was the ship “Passió per Formentera” at 06:30 in the Ceuta-Algeciras direction but, despite being better adapted for bad weather, the shipping company has chosen to suspend the service.
The force of the storm, especially in the middle of the Strait, together with the waves, have advised shipping companies to keep maritime communications suspended, which is why Ceuta has remained isolated by the sea since yesterday.
The strong wind also keeps the fishing fleet of the city of Ceuta tied up, as well as others in the immediate environment.
The bad weather is expected to continue throughout the weekend and even on Monday, although the intensity of the wind is expected to drop in the coming hours.
Port sources have told EFE that this is one of the toughest storms in recent months. EFE
