San Sebastián (EFE).- EH Bildu has presented itself this Saturday as a formation of “closeness, cooperation, efficiency, commitment and honesty”, with “zero cases of corruption”. He has run for the May elections as the “only alternative” to the “exhausted model” of the PNV, “a party without ideas that is always late.”
The only alternative to the PNV
This was expressed by the candidate of the pro-independence coalition for Mayor of Vitoria, Rocío Vitero, who closed the Municipal Conference in the Tabakalera center in San Sebastián, in which 400 representatives of EH Bildu participated in the Basque town halls. Among them was the former San Sebastian mayor and candidate for re-election, Juan Karlos Izagirre.

He has insisted that the PNV is a party “without ideas, exhausted, like an athlete about to retire.” «They arrive late and bad in everything. In Osakidetza, in pensions, in the conquest of new levels of rights, in defending the citizens and not only the economic elites. For this reason, at a time when we need to move forward, the only alternative for change is EH Bildu”, Vitero stressed.
In his opinion, the jeltzales “understand politics as a marketing element.” He has explained that, although they say that “they have done self-criticism” and “a listening process”, “their inertia remains unchanged.” “It is the inertia of a party that has already given everything it had to give and that” now, in 2023, has realized that the future has a woman’s name,” she asserted.
More criticism of jeltzales
«We are talking about a party that continues to resist establishing external control elements to avoid corruption while condemning PNV leaders for the biggest corruption case that has been uncovered in the Basque Country, when they have more than half a dozen accused public officials and convicted of corruption,” he emphasized.
The candidate has denounced that “the weakening of public services is already more than evident” and that those who manage them “have shown a manifest inability to respond to the needs of citizens and the challenges that are presented to us.”
For the coalition, the challenges for the next four years are “demographic, equality, care, ecosocial and cultural”, in which it is already working in order to “anticipate and respond to the problems that they are coming.”
«EH Bildu will once again be the first municipalist force in May. We are aware of what we are doing and the potential that municipalism has in the sovereignist strategy. It is a municipalism with the ambition of turning the Basque capitals into the bellows of the construction of this country”, he stated.
Izagirre, “prepared” to recover Donostia
Before his speech, Juan Karlos Izagirre, has assured that, although his training is “a young political agent”, his “barely 12 years have been enough to show that things can be done differently” and that he has a “style own” that “connects with the real needs of the people”.

He has affirmed that in the four years that he governed in San Sebastián -from 2011 to 2015- the EH Bildu team knew how to “identify and respond to the needs and strategic challenges of the city” and has regretted that everything they put in place “did not have had continuity.
«I am once again willing to give the answers that Donostia and the people of San Sebastian need to face the challenges of the future. I am prepared for the City Council to reconnect with the citizenry and, above all, to attend to daily needs through public and local policies. That is my commitment », he has remarked.
