Salamanca/Valladolid, Feb 10 (EFE).- The PP has ratified this Friday that its Salamanca congress will be held within a month, on March 11, with the preference set by the regional president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, who calls for “sensible” and “moderation” to the future provincial leader.
The appointment will arrive wrapped in doubts about the latest affiliation processes, about which the critical affiliates who promoted the convocation of the Salamanca congress before the Justice are announcing a new demand.
Before the extraordinary Autonomous Executive Committee of the PP of Castilla y León, Mañueco has generated laughter among the attendees for his preferences for the congress, to which he has responded that he did not know what they were laughing at because he had not “said any name”, in reference to the potential candidacies that may be presented to lead the party in Salamanca.
After almost two years of delay in the convening of the Provincial Congress and that a court has ordered to convene it within a period of 45 days, Mañueco has explained to the highest representatives of the PP-CyL that this congress scheduled for March 11 will serve to « close the cycle of congresses” and to “strengthen the party structure”.
Affiliate Preference
«You are going to allow me a license as an affiliate of the PP of Salamanca, I have it very clear, I have been an affiliate for almost 40 years and I am going to bet in that congress for good sense, for moderation, for efficiency in management, the success in decisions, the capacity for work and leadership as necessary qualities to preside over this great provincial organization… and I don’t know why some of you laugh because I have not said any name…”, he argued.
Mañueco has defended the need to have a PP in Salamanca that “continues to be a benchmark”, both in the capital and in the province, “a party identified with the people and that shows” that “it achieves victory after victory in each election” .
Just before this harangue to face the Provincial Congress in Salamanca, Mañueco has said that the municipal candidates have the support and affection of the militants and sympathizers to face the 28M elections: «We are all one pineapple, hard and fast mature… everyone pitching in,” he summarized.
Demand Announcement
“It smells like a stew, it’s surreal,” the lawyer for the PP affiliates and officials who promoted the demand from Congress warned EFE in statements, who explained that at yesterday’s meeting in Salamanca they asked to know at least the number of affiliations that they were going to be approved and that this information was denied to them by the Manager, headed by the mayor of the capital of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo.
This group of affiliates fears that the affiliation process will continue in the coming weeks, before the Provincial Congress is finally held, whose celebration on March 11 is expected to be ratified today by the Autonomous Executive Committee of the PP.
In a press release sent this Friday to the media, the critical sector of the Salamanca PP has warned that at yesterday’s meeting in the capital of Salamanca new affiliations were approved “without even knowing the number of affiliations that were being approving’, as in another previous meeting held in December.
“Those affiliations processed in an extraordinary and urgent way one day before the congress is called, are the result of pressure on mayors, councilors and candidates for the next local elections, who are being urged to deliver at least eight affiliations every one,” they added.
For this reason, and given what it considers “seriousness of these facts”, the affiliates -among them there are public and organic positions of the party in the province of Salamanca, “will undertake the legal actions that proceed to restore legality.”
In his opinion, “this is the only alternative” to which they are “bound to guarantee the holding of a provincial congress with all the democratic guarantees of cleanliness and transparency that the members of the Popular Party of Salamanca undoubtedly deserve.”
Congress of Salamanca marked by Justice
The circumstance arises that the judicial investigation against the PP of Salamanca, its former president and current president of the Diputación, Javier Iglesias, and its manager, Isabel Sánchez, in the so-called ‘primary case’ on the alleged illegal financing of the party, is still open salmantino in the framework of the 2017 primaries that led to the election as the PP candidate of the current president of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco.
Shortly after being investigated -accused-, Javier Iglesias resigned from his position at the head of the party, last December, although he remained at the head of the Salamanca Provincial Council and as a councilor for the capital’s City Council.
The Investigating Court number two of Salamanca maintains Iglesias, the manager and the PP, as a legal entity, under investigation, considering that there are rational indications of the alleged commission of this crime through anonymous donations that served to pay late fees of affiliates of the PP, so that they could participate in the primaries.EFE
