Toledo (EFE).- The institutional act of International Women’s Day 2023 in Castilla-La Mancha will be in Almansa (Albacete) on March 8 and the Luisa de Medrano award will be presented to the president of the UN Committee for the elimination all forms of discrimination against women, Ana Peláez, and the Federation of Rural Women (Fademur).
At a press conference, the Minister for Equality and regional government spokesperson, Blanca Fernández, reported on the agreements approved by the Governing Council, including the decision to hold the institutional act on March 8 at the Unión Musical de Almansa auditorium , since the municipal spaces have not been ceded to the Board because they were already occupied for that date.
In addition to the Luisa de Medrano prizes, for personal career and for the entity, five women will be recognized on March 8, one from each province.
The award to the UN commissioner for disability, unanimously
Fernández explained that the award to Peláez is “very important”, which has been unanimously adopted by the jury and that she will be the first woman with a disability (she was blind from birth) to receive it.
He has said that Peláez stands out “for his fight for visibility, presence and awareness regarding women and girls with disabilities” and has stressed that it will be “a luxury” to reward this woman who has received “with great humility ” recognition.
The prize for the entity has gone to Fademur, the women’s organization of the UPA (Union of Small Farmers), and entails an endowment of 15,000 euros.
Also a woman awarded by each province
In addition, the five women awarded on the occasion of Women’s Day in Castilla-La Mancha will be the dance teacher from Albacete Llanos Ortín; the journalist from Calzada de Calatrava (Ciudad Real) specializing in gender in El País Isabel Valdés and the educational researcher from Sisante (Cuenca) Carmen Herráiz;
Cristina Moreno, the first woman lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard and the second to take charge of a Command (Guadalajara), and the 90-year-old nurse from Toledo who founded Médicos del Mundo have also been recognized.
