Las Palmas De Gran Canaria (EFE).- The writer Alexis Ravelo and the artist Jane Millares, posthumously, and the humorist Manolo Vieira and the former rector and professor of the ULPGC, Rafael Robaina, have been distinguished as Favorite Sons of Gran Canaria 2023 by the island’s Cabildo, has announced its president, Antonio Morales.
The corporation has also designated the writer and journalist Dolores Campos-Herrero Navas as Adoptive Children of the island, posthumously; the priest Jorge Jesús Hernández Duarte, promoter of the Fundación Canaria Yrichen, and the doctor, researcher and scientist Delvys Rodríguez Abreu.
The Can de Gran Canaria de las Artes have gone to the classical dancer Wendi Artiles, posthumously, and the multidisciplinary artist Hildegard Hahn, while the doctor and researcher Manuel Sosa and the scientist Juan Ortega have been chosen to receive the Can de Gran Canaria of Sciences.
The Gran Canaria Cabildo has also awarded the Roque Nublo Gran Canaria prizes to the Bentay Scouts-Explorers Association and the ADEPSI Association, in the social sphere; to María del Carmen Pérez Castellano and Carmen Martín Rodríguez, posthumously, in the financial award; and the Guaguas Volleyball Club and the Taburiente Sports Union, in sports.
Similarly, they will receive the Roque Nublo Gran Canaria prizes in the folk field Juan Ramírez Pérez and the ‘Entre Amigos’ Cultural Association, together with Juan Moreno Artiles and Orlando Rent a Car SA, who obtained it in the tourism field, and the Association ‘Opportunities of Vida’ and Amalia López Méndez, in international solidarity.
Morales recalled that these honors will be delivered on March 17, at the commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the creation of the Cabildo, which will be held at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.
The president stressed that with these recognitions “people, groups and entities that are beacons, guides and references for the society of Gran Canaria are extolled”.
“The Cabildo returns to honor and recognize people, groups and entities that have defended the universal values and values of this island and that project irreplaceable references to the world and society in their personal, vital or professional experiences”, Morales asserted. EFE
