Logroño, (EFE).- The Office of Assistance to Victims of Crime (OAVD) of La Rioja attended 743 people last year, 109 less than in 2021, but interventions that require comprehensive care increased, which are the 60 percent of the total.
These data have been provided this Tuesday by the Minister of Social Services and Public Governance of the Government of La Rioja, Pablo Rubio, together with the Director General of Justice and the Interior, Jorge Medel, and the person in charge of this office, Bárbara Romo, who have made a balance in an informative round.
Rubio has stressed that the mere legal information that this service used to provide to victims has been superseded by “the need for real reparation, both moral and material”, through the concept of “restorative justice”.
He added that the approval last September of the Law against gender violence in La Rioja will force successive governments to act with new measures to attend to women victims of sexist violence.
Child-to-parent violence
It has also considered “worrying” that last year there were 65 cases of child-to-parent violence, among which Medel has specified that there were 30 of adult children to parents, 10 of minors to their parents and another 25 of parents to their offspring.
The general director has added that last year 431 cases of gender violence were dealt with in this office, 58% of the total, and another 85 for crimes against sexual freedom.
In addition, there were another 70 cases for crimes of digital gender violence, for sexist behavior through digital and telematic media.
For his part, Romo has pointed out that victims of sexual violence increased by 23% last year, but new cases of gender violence decreased by 6%, although the complaints filed by these women increased.
The profile of the victims of gender violence is a woman of Spanish nationality (almost 60% of the total) between 25 and 54 years old, he specified.
More professional sensitivity
“The fact that complaints and victims increase does not mean that there are more cases of gender violence. Society and professionals are more sensitized to attend to them”, has detailed the head of this office.
In this sense, he has highlighted that the single window is a resource available in this service that avoids “pilgrimage and secondary victimization” for the victims.
Thus, it has specified that the psychological interventions provided to users of this office have increased by 50% and the accompanying service of professionals to trials and other judicial procedures by 40%.
Regarding child-parent violence, Medel has recognized that “something is failing at the educational level” and has added that in 2020, due to the confinement due to the state of alarm, there was a slight increase in cases due to the increase in tensions in families that They were already experiencing situations of violence.
