Avilés (EE).- ArcelorMittal has started this Monday, after four months of shutdown, its Veriña Blast Furnace A without incident and is now operational, although with a production adjusted to a market that still does not respond as expected, they have reported to Efe sources from the steel multinational.
Previously, last Friday, Sinter B began, which supports the kiln with its new 60-meter-high chimney installed to improve the dispersion of particles, with which these facilities, in which some 250 employees work, are now fully operational.
The market has experienced a slight improvement, although demand is still low, especially with regard to the wire rod, plate and tinplate divisions, which is why it still does not allow the two furnaces to be at full capacity, the company explained. .
The 250 own-staff workers have left the Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE) that is in force until March 31.
The steel company applies this ERTE based on the evolution of market needs and, consequently, has adapted to this new circumstance.
The greatest impact on the rest of the steel facilities caused by the closure of the furnace at the end of last September was in the Avilés steel mill, the Hot Strip Train and the Cold Rolling division.
ArcelorMittal’s management made the decision to temporarily stop its Blast Furnace A due to the situation of market demand and immediate forecasts. EFE
