Madrid (EFE) From the capital.
“If I was already convinced that this space is important, today I am more convinced than ever. (…) I think there are plenty of reasons for people to trust our project. For all this, I am going to present myself to lead, as I have been saying, the center space in Madrid, the one that Ciudadanos represents”, Villacís stated at a press conference held this Wednesday at a hotel in Madrid.
Villacís, who has attended accompanied by the Urban Development delegate of the City Council of the capital, Mariano Fuentes, has affirmed that he has “never” left Ciudadanos or the liberal space and has also denied that he has proposed to the PP.
Denies the rumors about his departure
“I have never proposed to the PP, that is not true,” said the deputy mayor of Madrid, who did not want to refer to who may be behind the rumors of her march to the PP because that would be, she said, going down into the “mud ».
“I’m not going to throw shit,” said Villacís, who has described the last few days “of bickering” and “speculations” about his possible departure from Cs in the direction of the PP as “convulsive”.
Some “speculations”, as Villacís has described them, that the PP has been in charge of cooling in the last hours.
Since speculation arose last Friday, Genoa warned that it would not admit internal currents, while in the PP of Madrid and in the environment of Isabel Díaz Ayuso they closed the door to its incorporation, which the mayor of Madrid, José Luis, was not looking for either. Martinez-Almeida.
After Ayuso publicly expressed his reluctance, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, stressed behind closed doors before his party that he would not impose candidates on the territories. For the deputy mayor, only the national road was now open, although Genoa stressed that the leader of Ciudadanos had not expressed her willingness to go to the PP, as the president of the popular party recalled today.
The decision to run in the Ciudadanos primaries also complicates a fit at the national level, according to some voices in the party.
Ciudadanos assures that he had “no doubt” that Villacís would go with his initials
The leadership of Ciudadanos (Cs) has assured this Wednesday that it had “no doubt” that the deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, would present herself under her acronym and not with those of the PP in the municipal elections in May.
“Our deputy mayor of Madrid is a great asset of this party, which is the only liberal and reformist political project in Spain,” Cs assured in a statement in which he remarked that Villacís has been “the only liberal voice” in the Madrid consistory “And so it will continue to happen after this May.”
For the leadership of Cs, “whoever wins” the primaries of the city of Madrid, the party will continue “developing and leading liberal and reformist policies from the most important City Hall in our country.”
“We hope that all affiliates who want to attend the primaries do so and that it is, as always, the affiliates who decide next Sunday,” he highlights.
Edmundo Bal: It does not stay, the PP has ruled it out
For their part, from the environment of Edmundo Bal, loser in the last party assembly, they have criticized Villacís for ensuring that he stays in Ciudadanos when in reality what has happened is that the PP has discarded it to go on its lists.
Sources close to Bal consider that the best candidate for the party would be Mariano Fuentes, delegate for Urban Development of the City Council of the capital, and a member of the current leadership of the party.
