Madrid (EFE).- The turnover of the “renting” sector grew by 11.7% in 2022 compared to 2021 to 7,426 million euros thanks to the increase in the number of vehicles, according to the data presented this Wednesday by the Spanish Association of Vehicle Renting (AER).

In a press conference, the president of AER, José-Martín Castro Acebes, explained that, currently, the sector is “in a phase of small reduction” in registrations and that in 2022 all the demand could not be met of new customers due to the shortage of vehicles due to manufacturing problems.

For their part, small companies (with up to four vehicles) represented 23.1% of the total park after growing 7.2% to 197,498 units; while medium-sized companies (from 5 to 24 vehicles) represented 17.6% of the total with 150,352 units (7.4% more) and large companies (more than 24 vehicles) accounted for 43% of the total, with 366,100 vehicles (8% more).
The average number of vehicles per customer stood at 3.3 units and individuals represented 52% of all customers, followed by small companies (41.6%), medium-sized (5.3%) and large ( 1.7%).
Vehicles powered by alternative energies accounted for 32% of “renting” registrations and the association estimates that 2022 closed with a fleet of electrified vehicles close to 70,000 units, 8.2% of the total.
Regarding the investment in the purchase of vehicles, it stood at 5,634 million, 0.2% more, while the average term of the contracts in 2022 was 46.79 months, compared to 46.95 months for 2021.
