Giving an account in a press conference of the data related to the pensions of the Social Security system in the Canary Islands after the application of the revaluation of 8.5% approved by the Council of Ministers to be able to face inflation, Anselmo Pestana It has detailed that this is the average increase that these subsidies will register as of this month of January in the archipelago.
According to data from the Ministry of Social Security, this increase raises the average retirement pension this year in the Canary Islands to 1,263.40 euros (1,280.10 euros in Las Palmas and 1,243.23 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife), an amount that, average, was 1,036.34 euros in 2018.
In this way, the average monthly pension increases by 9.47% compared to 2021 and stands at 1,082.53 euros on the islands (1,099.46 in Las Palmas and 1,063.81 euros in Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
Pestana has detailed that in this region there are 326,553 pensioners who receive 350,321 pensions, since some receive more than one.
On the islands, 14,280 people receive the contributory pension supplement to reduce the gender gap, which seeks to repair the damage that women have suffered throughout their professional careers for assuming a leading role in the work of the child care, which is projected in the field of pensions.
In addition, 97,516 pensions in the Canary Islands, 27.8% of the total, are increased by the supplement that is added to the amount of the pension, in its contributory modality, when it does not reach the legally established minimum.
Anselmo Pestana has considered it necessary to continue increasing the minimum wage to prevent so many differences in terms of pensions in the Spanish autonomous communities as a whole, since this will increase the contribution bases. EFE
