Vitoria/Burgos (EFE).- The National Police have arrested a retired former functionary of the Vitoria City Council in Miranda de Ebro for sending letters with pyrotechnic material.
Apparently the 74-year-old man sent these types of letters to the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez; to the embassies of Ukraine and the US; and to the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, among other recipients.
At 10:00 a.m. this Wednesday, agents of the General Information Commissioner arrested PGP, the only suspect in all the shipments, made between November and December 2022, in the middle of the street, according to police and legal sources.
Specifically, he is credited with sending six brown envelopes with homemade pyrotechnic material similar to gunpowder inside to the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez; to the embassies of Ukraine and the US; and to the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, to an arms company in Zaragoza and the Torrejón de Ardoz air base between November and December 2022.
active in social networks
The investigation, which the National Police describes as complex and laborious, and which has affected several provinces in Spain, has been able to determine that all the shipments of the six letters were made from the city of Burgos.
However, although it is presumed that the detainee made and sent the artifacts alone, the National Police does not rule out the participation or influence of other people in the events, according to the General Directorate of the body.
The Police defines the arrested person as a person who is very active in social networks and with technical and computer knowledge.
After arresting the man by order of the Investigating Court number 4 of the National Court, the agents of the National Police are searching the house with the support of dogs specialized in the detection of explosives.
Police sources tell EFE that it is expected that, once the search of the house is complete, the detainee will be transferred to Madrid to the Canillas police station and this Friday he will go to court.
For their part, legal sources have explained to EFE that the actions taken to locate the suspect for security purposes are kept secret, but not the main piece in which the arrest warrant and search of the address has been issued.

crimes of terrorism
The same sources point to EFE that, in principle, the crimes he is accused of are terrorism, although they are waiting to determine their motivation, a crime against high-ranking State institutions and another of injuries due to minor injuries caused to a worker of the Ukrainian embassy.
A neighbor of the detainee – who retired in 2013, as confirmed by the Vitoria City Council – has explained to EFE that he lived alone in an apartment located on Clavel de Miranda de Ebro street, in the La Charca neighborhood, which this morning has woken up with a strong police device.
Another neighbor, from a portal that is right next to the detainee’s home, explained that he saw “all the commotion” early this morning when he went out to the gallery of his home to take out the garbage.
“The street was full of policemen, it looked like an army,” he explained. Later, she has seen how some policemen took several bags and computer equipment from the house.
