Murcia, Jan 24 (EFE).- The Government of Murcia will appeal to the Supreme Court the hydrological planning approved this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers that will cut shipments of the transfer from the Tagus to Segura (TTS) by applying progressively higher ecological flows to the river Manchego, the regional president, Fernando López Miras, has advanced this afternoon at a press conference.
In her opinion, the alternative to cutting between 70 and 110 cubic hectometres (hm3) that the Spanish Executive proposes to supply with a minimum of 140 desalinated water is not an alternative due to its worse quality and high price, although the Minister of Transition Ecological, Teresa Ribera, has promised to lower the hm3 to 34 euros.
Also due to the impossibility of taking it to certain levels and the pollution and waste of energy that generating it entails, added Miras, for whom “today’s date will be marked as the greatest political attack on the Region of Murcia in recent decades, a death sentence to the TTS, an outrage without base or foundation that hits socioeconomic and environmental development.
“If we are what we are today, it is thanks to the TTS, how we have taken advantage of every drop of water to become the garden of Europe for the quality of our products and the work of our farmers,” he added before accusing the central government. to demonstrate once again that it breaks the balance and leads to the ruin of the Levant and thousands of families without flinching or looking them in the eye, “he added.
In his words, “it is not a surprise, since the head of the central Executive, Pedro Sánchez, has already advanced” his intentions, on April 19, 2018, this “50% cut in shipments up to 110 hm3 per year, ignoring any technical criteria or scientific endorsement and the opinion of the Council of State, which disavowed it and came to say that its hydrological plan was a botch, with which 15 million people are ignored, a third of the country »between Andalusia and the Valencian and Murcian communities.
That opinion “acknowledged deficiencies, legal insecurity and lack of transparency in the debate of the National Water Council, evidenced a lack of coordination between the Tagus and Segura hydrological plans, but the national government only recognizes the priorities of the former without there being any There has been constant dialogue, as Ribera said today”, with all the parties involved.
The new planning does not evaluate the consequences of these cuts to the TTS, it is marked by ideological sectarianism and the lack of technical criteria and it is painful to hear from Ribera that it cannot be questioned, he stated.
“They are going to leave Levante without half of its water resources and they try to silence us, but we are going to fight against those who take away the essential element for our life and our future,” he indicated before advancing that he will request a meeting again. with Sánchez in case he succeeded this time after several unsuccessful attempts.
«We are not going to tolerate that they send thousands of workers to unemployment, that they impoverish the region with their decisions, we defend solidarity and justice between regions and infrastructures that allow the maximum use of water at the same price. We do not want less for anyone, we want more for everyone”, he concluded.
